New iFEMs are optimized for maximum capacity, full-home coverage and smaller board size
Qorvo® (Nasdaq: QRVO), a leading provider of innovative RF solutions that connect the world, today introduced the industry’s first 5 GHz integrated front-end modules (iFEMs) with a high-frequency bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter that support tri-band mesh architectures for home Wi-Fi. These modules enable Wi-Fi OEMs to develop home networking solutions with reduced board size, simplified design and reduced time to market.
The QPF7551 and QPF7552 integrate Qorvo’s unique bandBoostTM filter technology, which maximizes capacity and range by boosting band isolation in distributed Wi-Fi 6 systems. This enables consumers to fully enjoy the speed advantages of mesh home networks that broadcast concurrently on three different channels.
These iFEMs are the first to include a 5 GHz power amplifier (PA), a U-NII-1-2a (QPF7551) or U-NII-2c-3 (QPF7552) bandBoostTM BAW filter, a single pole, two throw switch (SP2T) and a by-passable low noise amplifier (LNA).
The QPF7551 and QPF7552 reduce required board size by as much as 30 percent, resulting in smaller, more discrete and aesthetically pleasing router and extenders throughout the home network, and without compromising performance.
Lee Ratliff, Senior Principal Analyst at Omdia said, “The market for Wi-Fi 6 enabled devices will grow at a compounded annual rate of 47% through 2025. At that time, it will account for 1.7 billion unit shipments, or over 40% of all Wi-Fi devices shipped that year. Whole home mesh systems are among the fastest-growing segments of the Wi-Fi 6 device landscape, forecast to grow 200% in 2021, compared to 60% for traditional consumer routers. As a leading RF vendor in Wi-Fi front end solutions, Qorvo is well positioned to take advantage of this growing demand.”
Cees Links, general manager of Qorvo Wireless Connectivity, said, “Our new iFEMs bring together Qorvo’s system, integration and packaging expertise to solve complex RF design challenges and deliver ever-increasing benefits in the home and enterprise. Integration and simplification are key to future innovation in this market, and customers now have a turnkey solution that delivers simplicity and high performance in a smaller size.”
