Leading battery and power management, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), industrial edge computing solutions provider Dialog Semiconductor (German Stock Exchange trading code: DLG) today announced that Carnival Corporation will In its OceanMedallion™ wearable device, it adopts Dialog's wireless ranging WiRa™ technology to realize short-distance positioning function to ensure passenger safety and provide better cruise services.

The Medallion™ wearable device was originally launched in 2017, connecting Princess Cruises Medallion Class passengers to its Experience Internet of Things (xIoT™) smart ship ecosystem to provide unprecedented personalized passenger services and enhance flight attendants and passengers The interaction between. This award-winning wearable device uses contactless boarding and disembarking, contactless consumption, keyless entry into the cabin, on-demand services, dynamic direction finding, family and friends positioning, enjoying the premiere movie during the journey, and interactive activities And schedule planning, interactive entertainment and other functions greatly enhance the passenger experience.

Due to the new requirements and regulations arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, Princess Cruises will use Dialog’s WiRa technology to achieve a more accurate distance measurement between passengers than RSSI (received signal strength indication)-based technology, thereby improving Carnival Cruise Line’s ability to protect passengers from infection.

Dialog’s WiRa technology provides phase-based accurate ranging performance close to UWB (Ultra Wideband) accuracy, while significantly reducing power consumption, extending battery life, and reducing solution costs. It also uses advanced proprietary algorithms to provide better Strong performance. This is especially important for cruise ship application scenarios, because cruise ships are generally constructed of steel materials, and the signals are easily reflected, which can lead to errors in distance calculations. Therefore, advanced multi-path cancellation technologies are required. In order to deploy WiRa and multi-path cancellation technology, Carnival Group adopted Dialog’s acclaimed DA14697 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) SoC. The DA1469x series is the leading BLE solution in the wearable device market, offering the highest integration and the best processing performance.

In addition to Dialog's DA1469x Bluetooth Low Energy SoC, Carnival Group also chose Dialog's AT25FF series of SPI NOR Flash devices and SLG46108VGreenPAK technology. AT25FF flash memory devices provide an ultra-deep sleep mode with a sleep current of less than 7nA, helping Medallion devices to achieve longer battery life. Dialog's SLG46108V GreenPAK technology can maximize the sleep time of the BLE SoC, further extend battery life, and reduce the required PCB footprint.

Sean McGrath, senior vice president and general manager of the connectivity and audio business unit of Dialog Semiconductor, said: "These technologies, including WiRa™, which I am proud of, significantly outperform other competing solutions in challenging application scenarios. Including cruise, security and asset tracking and other types of applications. The use of the Dialog combination solution consisting of flash memory, GreenPAK and Bluetooth low energy in Medallion devices will help Princess Cruises provide passengers with an unprecedented personalized experience."

John Padgett, Chief Experience and Innovation Officer of Carnival Cruise Line, said: "The OCEAN platform supports the Princess Cruises Medal holiday experience and further enhances its market leadership through unparalleled customer service innovation. The original intention of OceanMedallion's equipment development is to enrich passenger-crew interaction. And to provide a comprehensive and distinguished travel experience. Through cooperation with Dialog, the performance of this series of wearable devices has been further improved, allowing us to fully support customer experience, service operations, security, health and safety processes on the OCEAN platform, etc. every aspect."
