Apple wants to make AirPods headphones a health device: it can monitor body temperature and posture, and can be used as a hearing aid

According to reports, after more than 7 years of hard work, Apple has begun to extend some of the health monitoring functions of Apple Watch smart watches to AirPods wireless headset products.

Over the years, Apple's ambitions in the field of AirPods and in-ear sensors have been obvious. It has a large number of patents for using headphones as health monitors, even going back seven years. And Apple executives also said that this feature will be applied to devices other than Apple Watch. At the same time, there have been rumors in the market that AirPods will soon have sensors and other health monitors.

Now, these are finally going to become reality. Some of the latest public documents and people familiar with the matter said that in the future AirPods may support body temperature monitoring, and there are already "prototype products." You can also use AirPods as hearing aids to help the hearing impaired.

In addition, future AirPods will also have built-in motion sensors to monitor the user's posture. If the user is found sitting listlessly in a chair, and other similar behaviors, the headset will sound an alarm.

AirPods was released in September 2016, and it barely accepted online orders until the end of that year. However, as early as 2014, Apple had applied for three patents related to biometric sensing headsets.

According to the 2014 patent, a health monitoring system is installed in a set of earphones or earplugs, placed in or near the ear, and the embedded activity sensor can obtain data such as temperature, sweat, and heart rate.

For a long time, there have been rumors that AirPods will integrate health functions. As early as 2018, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Guo stated that AirPods can be integrated with Apple Watch and other devices to achieve better health management.

In addition, Apple has filed a number of patent applications involving the introduction of health features on AirPods. These include various sensors that track heart rate, exercise, or other health indicators.

Earlier this year, Apple's vice president Kevin Lynch (Kevin Lynch) talked about the integration of AirPods into health and the concept of "sensor fusion". Lynch hinted that Apple may include other types of device sensors in its Health ecosystem, including sensors in AirPods.

Currently, the Apple Health system is already using "sensor fusion" to extract useful data from different devices, including iPhone or Apple Watch.
