Qualcomm Technologies today announced the launch of Qualcomm ultraBAW RF filter technology for frequency bands below 7GHz. The company previously used modem-to-antenna solutions to promote the development of high-performance 5G and connection systems in the wireless product segment, laying a solid foundation for this innovation .

The radio frequency filter separates the radio signals transmitted and received by the mobile phone from different frequency bands. The new Qualcomm ultraBAW radio frequency filter technology will support 5G and Wi-Fi solutions to use spectrum up to 7GHz and achieve high performance in higher frequency bands. The use of frequency bands below 7GHz will enable the coexistence of 5G and Wi-Fi to benefit next-generation mobile terminals, notebook computers, and numerous solutions for automotive, Internet of Things, and industrial applications, enabling them to exhibit higher performance and energy efficiency in indoor and outdoor environments.
The new Qualcomm ultraBAW RF filter continues and expands the leading performance of the company's previously launched Qualcomm ultraSAW technology. Qualcomm ultraSAW supports low frequency bands from 600MHz to 2.7GHz, and Qualcomm ultraBAW supports 2.7GHz to 7.2GHz, thus extending the mid-band connection to below 7GHz. Qualcomm ultraBAW also supports ultra-wide channels up to 300MHz, 5G and/or Wi-Fi network coexistence, and faster downloads and uploads.

Qualcomm ultraBAW can provide support for key Wi-Fi frequency bands by supporting higher frequency bands from 2.7GHz to 7.2GHz, including 5GHz, the newly added 6GHz frequency band for Wi-Fi 6E, and frequency bands that comply with future Wi-Fi standards. Terminals using Qualcomm's ultraBAW technology will have multiple advantages such as supporting higher transmission rates and enhanced positioning service capabilities.

Qualcomm ultraBAW filter uses thin-film piezoelectric material micro-acoustic technology, which not only supports a smaller footprint, but also uses innovative heat dissipation module technology to improve energy efficiency and support longer battery life. In addition, Qualcomm ultraBAW, as the latest product of Qualcomm TechnologiesĄŻ industry-leading modem-to-antenna solution portfolio, will support terminal manufacturers to introduce high-performance 5G and Wi-Fi connections into multiple verticals, including smartphones, automobiles, laptops, and tablets. Computers, CPE, small base stations, fixed wireless access (FWA) and the Internet of Things.

Christian Block, Qualcomm's senior vice president and general manager of RF front-end business, said: "Our next-generation RF filter solution is essential to extend 5G beyond the smartphone field. Qualcomm's ultraSAW technology for frequency bands below 3GHz has been very successful. , Now we have launched Qualcomm ultraBAW technology, which can provide excellent performance for the frequency bands below 7GHz. Qualcomm Technologies is working with industry-leading terminal manufacturers to develop next-generation connected terminals, allowing consumers to enjoy XR video streaming, downloading files or enjoying XR. When you experience it, you can enjoy the peak performance of seamless connection between 5G NR and Wi-Fi networks."

With the launch of the new Qualcomm ultraBAW radio frequency filter, Qualcomm Technologies' portfolio of solutions from antennas to modems and radio frequencies is becoming more and more perfect. The combination includes the previously launched Qualcomm ultraSAW and a number of other RF front-end components, which will continue to make breakthroughs in innovation, performance and energy efficiency.

Qualcomm ultraBAW enhances the performance of high frequency bands from the filter component level, and further strengthens the advantages of Qualcomm TechnologiesĄŻ advanced RF front-end product portfolio and 5G modems and RF systems. The company is integrating Qualcomm ultraBAW technology across the entire product line, including power amplifier modules, diversity modules, Wi-Fi (modules/splitters/filters) and discrete filters. The power amplifier module (Qualcomm QPM6679) launched by the company this year also uses Qualcomm ultraBAW, which can support high-power processing based on high frequency bands in a very small sound wave structure.

Products empowered by Qualcomm's ultraBAW filter technology are sampling to customers. Commercial terminals using this technology are expected to be available in the second half of 2022.
