The joint research team released the latest research results of the samples from the far side of the moon collected by Chang'e-6. The research shows that the compositions of the basalts in the samples from the far side and the near side of the moon are similar. The main formation age of the basalts in the samples of this study is 2.823 billion years. The characteristics of the source region verify the lunar magma ocean model and indicate that the impact that formed the South Pole-Aitken Basin may have modified the early lunar mantle.
The relevant research paper was published in the international academic journal Science. This achievement provides crucial scientific evidence for human research on major scientific issues such as the origin and evolution of the moon.
