Recently, a Chinese research team, through high-precision chronological studies of Chang'e-6 lunar soil samples, has precisely determined for the first time that the Moon's Apollo Basin formed 4.16 billion years ago. This discovery accurately defines the formation time of the basin, pushing the start time of the Moon's "impact cataclysm" forward by at least 100 million years, which is conducive to promoting humanity's reunderstanding of the evolution of the Earth-Moon system. The results were published in the international academic journal Nature Astronomy on August 20.
