1. Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment Mega-Science Facility Officially Enters Operation

On August 26, the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment (JUNO) officially started operation and data acquisition. It has become the world's first ultra-large-scale and ultra-high-precision dedicated mega-science facility for neutrino research to enter operation. Data initially obtained during the trial operation period shows that all key performance indicators of the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment detector have fully met or exceeded the designed expectations. This will enable the mega-science facility to tackle a major issue in the field of particle physics over the next decade: the neutrino mass ordering. Additionally, it will assist scientists in conducting cutting-edge research on neutrinos from the Sun, supernovae, the atmosphere, and the Earth, opening a new window for exploring unknown physics.

2. China's Operating System Kylin V11 Officially Released

Kylin Software has officially released the Kylin Operating System V11. Built on the 6.6 kernel, this system includes a desktop operating system with an all-new experience that is intelligent and easy to use, as well as a server operating system that enables intelligent computing while being stable and secure. It features a newly defined architecture, an intelligent and user-friendly experience, comprehensive controllable security, and a natively open ecosystem.

3. Chinese Scientists Realize Novel Quantum States on 100-Qubit Quantum Chips

Chinese scientists have achieved a novel quantum state— a new type of "hot" topological edge state— on a 100-qubit superconducting quantum chip. This breakthrough solves the problem that symmetry-protected topological edge states are prone to interference from thermal noise, opening up new possibilities for protecting fragile quantum information. The research result was published in the journal Nature on August 27.

4. World's First 660MW Ultra-Supercritical Double-Arched Coal-Fired Unit Put into Operation

The world's first set of 660MW ultra-supercritical double-arched coal-fired units has all been successfully put into operation. This project adopts the "coal-fired power + new energy" model to achieve complementary advantages. The unit has overcome the technical challenge of efficient and clean combustion of anthracite, and uses coalbed methane for start-up, shutdown and combustion support. Compared with traditional fuel ignition, under the same material consumption conditions, its carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 53%, and the emissions of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfides have decreased by more than 90%. It can save more than 72 million yuan in thermal coal costs every year.

5. China's Self-Developed 6,000-Meter-Level Deep-Sea Unmanned Remotely Operated Vehicle Completes Sea Trials Successfully

China's self-developed 6,000-meter-level deep-sea unmanned remotely operated vehicle (ROV) "Haiqin" has triumphantly returned from a 4,140-meter-deep sea area after an 8-hour operation, successfully completing its sea trials. This adds another "powerful tool for scientific exploration" to China's deep-sea research endeavors.

"Haiqin" is a new-type high-efficiency deep-sea electric ROV system custom-built for the "Sun Yat-sen University" comprehensive marine scientific research and training vessel. It is equipped with scientific exploration equipment such as high-definition cameras, multi-functional manipulators, and detection sensors, and possesses intelligent operation capabilities including automatic direction finding, hovering positioning, and automatic route patrolling.
